Kiva Kamps was launched as a celebration of Kiva's values, philosophy and pedagogy: blending elements of learning through play with activities of daily living. Stepping away from the academic year, Kiva Kamps is an extension of Kiva's teaching and learning experience in which both internal and external facilitators curate a dedicated program to encourage exploration and discovery in different fields, giving students the opportunity to find their pathway, while picking up some new skills.
The first iteration of Kiva Kamp happened in Winter 2024 with an exclusive focus on Gymnastics, aiming to push students towards building strength, flexibility and confidence while 'playing'. Under the supervision of a trained facilitator, each child was supported well and en-couraged to go beyond their fears and reservations.
To honour Ramzan, Kiva Kamp hosted a 3-day Kamp weekend welcoming the holy month with curated activities and sessions around kindness, gratitude and reflection. When children explore meaningful traditions through play, creativity and connection, their curiosity deepens and so does their understanding of the world around them.
The spirit of Ramzan isn't just taught, it's felt, shared and experienced together as a community. In this Kamp weekend, we had activities such as 'Chef it Up' in which our students made snacks for iftar, 'Story time' centered around stories of different prophets in Islam, 'Screen Printing' in which our students created Eid Mubarak prints, and 'Paper Crafts' consisted of creating lanterns.
In 2025, Kiva Kamps hosted 'Summers at Kiva' - a month-long summer camp featuring 8 curated modules between the two different age groups. Open to external students, Summers at Kiva had a turnout of 62 students who participated in activities like Chef it Up, Storyweavers, Art & Craft, STEM and Robotics, Woodworks, Digital Art, Gymnastics, Teddy Tennis, and Futsal.
With a holistic and varied summer program, there was plenty of opportunity to dabble in different activities and create things out of play. From learning to make sweet little treats to building a sturdy beach chair and robot, our Kampers took part in new activities with full gusto. They challenged themselves with each hurdle whether it be in sports or art, and learned to step out of their comfort zone with every little step forward.
